WP3 : Building capacity in electro-clinical diagnosis of EE

T3.1 : Train the trainers in clinical diagnosis of EE
A. Clinical discussion
The discussion of clinical cases is part of the first task (T3:1: Train the trainers in clinical diagnosis of EE) of the SEED Workpackage 3 (Building capacity in electro-clinical diagnosis of EE).
The discussion of clinical cases began on March 12, 2020 in person at the Center of Biotechnology of Sfax.
As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, discussions of clinical cases took place remotely by videoconference using the google meet on an average of once a month in presence of Pr Sarah Weckhuysen or Pr Mathieu Milh.

Evaluation through OSCE methods could not be achieved given the constraints for face-to-face meetings due to the covid pandemic and the impossibility for European members to travel. As a matter of consequence, SEED consortium has decided to evaluate the trainers via a theoretical examination. This theoretical exam was held on December, 29, 2020 in the Sfax medical school
B. Educational Webinar
This is a series of online sessions for front-line healthcare workers in the Sfax and South zones, to be held every Tuesday afternoon.
The pathologies to be discussed are

  • West syndrome
  • Lenox Gastaut syndrome
  • Dravet syndrome

The program of each webinar is as follows:

  • 15:30-16:00: Lectures on West syndrome (Prof TRIKI / Prof KAMMOUN)
  • 16h00-16h45: Interactive Clinic (SEED Medical trainer)
  • 16h45-17h30: Interactive Clinic (SEED Medical trainer)

West syndrome

C. SEED Trainers: Animation of a didactic webinar to the profile of the students of the professional master of epilepsy and those of the CEC neurological diseases of the child and the adolescent of the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax

D. SEED Trainers: Animation of seminars designed for SEED health care professionals

As for health professionals (nurses and EEG technicians) they were not supposed to attend the theoretical exam (December, 29, 2021) in English as they do not understand this language. For SEED health care professionals, two seminars were organized in French. A pre and post tests will be organized. These seminars will include courses covering all types of EE which will be presented by the medical students under the supervision of the professors Chahnez Charfi Triki and Fatma Kamoun.
The first seminar was held on April, 3, 2021 in the Faculty Of Medicine of Sfax.

E. SEED trainers have assisted the paramedical students of the SEED project

SEED trainers have assisted the paramedical students of the SEED project by introducing them to EE syndromes (west, lenox gastaut and dravet) in a simple way.
The meeting took place on Saturday April 3, 2021 at the Faculty of Medicine in Sfax with the WP3 leaders and SEED trainers.

F. The SEED trainers assisted the students of the epileptology master’s degree of the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax and the students of the CEC of neurological diseases of the child and adolescent of the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax

The SEED trainers assisted the students of the epileptology master’s degree of the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax the students of the CEC of neurological diseases of the child and adolescent of the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax during the different presentations of the EE syndromes (DRAVET, POCS and DOOSE).
The SEED trainers presented the clinical guidelines of WEST and LENNOX GASTAUT syndromes.
This meeting took place on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm with the presence of SEED WP3 leaders.

WP6 : ESR involvement in twinning exercise [Months : 1-36]

T6.1 : Mentoring of ESRs (M1-M36)
In order to step up and stimulate scientific excellence of SU and to ensure a better knowledge transfer and sustainability of the SEED project’s results, SEED-SU supervisors looked for motivated and team-spirited ESR candidates to benefit from close supervision within the project. Selections were based on responses to a questioner 1 largely distributed in SU and on SEED-SU supervisors’ knowledge of  unior medical doctors and PhD students. This questioner presents (1) EU-funded SEED consortium and aims (2) opportunity and mentoring offered to ESR under SEED project and (3) missions of ESR who will be involved in the SEED activities. From month 1 to month 15, the following fifteen ESRs were selected.
