Illustrate quantitatively and qualitatively the expected potential impact of the twinning exercise within the coordinating institution

SEED project will result in quantitative and qualitative impact (see also table 2).

  • Quantitative impact in research and innovation capacity:
    • Decrease the delay of electro-clinical diagnosis (from 4 to 2 months)
    • Decrease the number of non phenotyped patients from 34% to 25%;
    • Decrease the delay (from 1 year to 6 months) and increase the rate of genetic diagnosis (from 15 to 25%).
    • Increase the number of publications in high IF from 0 to 4.
  • Qualitative impact in research and innovation capacity:
    • Using the expertise of the whole consortium, we aim at describing new electro-clinical EE phenotypes and to discover novel variants and genes to be published journals with high IF (e.g. Brain, Neurology, Epilepsia).
    • The discovery of new genes, during the project, will allow to carry out functional studies for the understanding of pathophysiology and consequently the opening to new therapeutic targets, either directly by the participating teams or in collaboration (Elghazala Technopole).
    • Our results will contribute to enrich EE international databases and to develop novel gene panels for specific EE diagnosis.
  • Quantitative impact in visibility and networking:
    • Increase the number of conferences organized (1) and attend to more international conferences as invited speaker (5).
  • Qualitative impact in visibility and networking:
    • With this experience of Twinning exercise, SU member upgrade their expertise in EE in the task force of ILAE and have opportunities to perform additional peer-reviews for journals or national and European projects.
    • Retaining the talented young scientists, researchers and doctors from MENA region and be attractive for young students from MENA region and abroad (e.g to accept fellowship).
    • To reach the criteria to be specialized epilepsy center as determined by ILAE21.
    • Act as a springboard for more epilepsy research in Tunisia and on MENA region.
